Roger Clark Mills, 1943 - 2010"People's lives become what they think is possible." --Roger C. Mills, on "The Today Show" Dr. Roger Clark Mills (a.k.a. "Doc,") ... President of the Center for Sustainable Change & Husband, Father, Grandfather, Teacher, Author, Pioneer ... passed away quietly in his home, surrounded by friends, family and tremendous love in the early morning of May 3, 2010. Roger was an incredibly unique human being, a man before his time. His legacy includes the endless courage and vision required to drop everything he had learned in graduate school training, and from his work as a mental health professional--and start anew, with a beginner's mind. After meeting Mr. Sydney Banks in the late 1970's, Roger dedicated his life to sharing and promoting the simple, spiritual nature and profound implications of the Principles of Mind, Consciousness and Thought, which Mr. Banks had generously shared with him. With great persistence, Roger brought the fact of innate mental health, inner wisdom and the Three Principles into disadvantaged and low-income communities, community development corporations, government settings, agencies, major foundations and the psychological community. He introduced hundreds, if not thousands, of mental health professionals to the Principles and Sydney Banks' work. Roger's early work at the Modello & Homestead Gardens Public Housing Developments in Dade County, FL, with Janet Reno's Task Force, and in Oakland's Lockwood & Coliseum Gardens, showed the world that any environment or circumstance could be transcended by the power of unconditional love and innate wisdom, and understanding the role of Thought. Essentially, Roger's work in communities revealed the true meaning of empowerment ... We believe that his legacy has not ended, but is just now beginning, on a scale he had always hoped for. As a husband, father and grandfather, Roger was endlessly patient, gentle, kind, "jolly" and compassionate. He had a world-famous laugh. As a teacher, he spoke to the capacity in his students to discover their own wisdom, and he deeply believed in their innate abilities to teach and share. So many teachers and facilitators of the Principles in the United States, and across the globe, are indebted to Roger for their first introduction to the Principles, and for his continued mentoring over many years. All of us have many funny and wonderful stories to share about "Doc."
